Creating Illusion Through Photography

Kim set the Community the Theme of Illusion in March 2024. As the guest blogger this month I would like to share images that really spoke to me. There were so many images shared and it's hard to pick just a few so I have done my best to feature a variety by some of our members. I've avoided sharing images that already feature on this months Newsletter.

Starting with my own image made on a rare sunny Spring day. On this day the water was completely mirrorlike. A very rare occurrence indeed. The hills and house were perfectly reflected in a local Loch creating an upside down world which captured my imagination!

Lina Ionta shared a beautiful image which resembled the full moon reflecting on the water, however, it was actually the sun at sunset. A beautiful peaceful image that I was really drawn into.

A very clever portrait illusion from Darrell Oakden next. I found this so interesting and it held my attention while I tried to work out how it was made. A great image showcasing the fun side of illusion.

An image from Yvonne Jevons next. It really makes you look twice as you try to work out just why the sign looks a little odd. It’s an illusion of a road sign refection flipped upside down in a puddle.

Emily Lee shared the illusion of a dandelion seed head which was barely there. So pretty and really eye catching as your mind tries to form the image.

Lynn Medley created an eye catching image of a Common Grackle using editing to create the illusion of a spooky sensation. This felt very dramatic to me.

Roy Jenkins-Packer created this amazing image. I'm still not sure how this was done. A real head scratcher. A tree with flame and a hornets nest!

Deanna Roussey created a beautiful ICM illusion. I love how you can decide what the image holds using your imagination.

Brian Nicholson created this image as he was drawn to the bubbles making patterns trapped on a stick. He spotted a face but some of us in the Community must be Marvel fans as we seen "I am Groot" from Guardians of the Galaxy! Say what you see ha ha!

Illusion of Solitude by Sue Rafferty. I love this image. I'm a real sucker for anything to do with water which a lot of the images chosen hold in one form or another.

Stephanie Barker posted this thought provoking image "Illusion of Sound". Sometimes even our words can be an illusion. I loved how it looked like the conversation was visible with rising and falling notes of sound. Something very different.

Jo Osborne 'Into The Woods'. Another beautiful ICM illusion. This time of woodland. The tones and shapes really caught my eye and I felt drawn into this image.

Pam Cowan creates beautiful little worlds of mosses in her images and this was so tiny with droplets. An illusion of an entirely new world!

Last but not least! Another watery image that had me mesmerised was "Illusion of Depth" from Denise Savage. The disappearing Tarn. It has no flow in or out and is fed by rainfall. The water looks so clear and blue and inviting but Denise warns that it's freezing cold and pretty deep!

I could go on and on sharing everyones beautiful images but we would be here all day so I have had to do my best to just select a few!

I'm so grateful to be part of this Community who inspire me with their creativity. I highly recommend joining Kims Photographic Community. You get monthly webinars and regular zoom catch ups with fellow members. It's a hugely supportive community and I've made some lovely friendships. I hope you enjoyed my choices for this months theme of Illusion.
